The spring, or vernal, season is when many pools naturally fill with water. The amount of time the pools remain filled depends on location and time of year. Vernal pools are a shallow type of pool that dry up regularly. You can learn more about their importance, the native animals and plants, and the work done to conserve and make new vernal pools on this website.  The Town of Newfield, NY has two constructed vernal pools as well as many natural pools that we would like to help preserve.
